Richmond - Richmond International Raceway is Virginia’s biggest spot for spectator events. Experience racing under the lights at this 3/4-mile “D” that has been hosting races since NASCAR was established in 1948. RIR seats 112,029 fans. Along with its two NASCAR weekends, RIR also presents the Indy cars of the Indy Racing League (IRL) for one weekend during the summer.
Dinwiddie - Virginia Motorsports Park is one of the top drag race strips in the nation.
Midlothian - Southside Speedway, 1/3-mile oval, has three primary divisions: Modifieds, Limited Late Models and Grand Stocks. Other divisions include Pro 6s, Legends, U-cars, and MACKA carts. If you like some real beating and banging, come see the Enduros 100 lap caution-free race (check schedule for dates). Track runs on Friday nights. Season is April – September. This is where NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin got his start!
Sandston - Richmond Dragway is a quarter-mile racing facility sanctioned by the International Hot Rod Association. The track presents more than 60 events a year and is home to the 2003 IHRA Bracket Finals Team Champions! Open March - November.
Martinsville - Martinsville
Speedway has been NASCAR-sanctioned since a year after its opening in 1947. It
is the shortest track on the NASCAR Sprint
Cup circuit. With its 12-degree banking in the turns, Martinsville is referred
to as “two
drag strips with a turnaround at each end,” which makes it a prime
candidate for the most beating and banging race of the season! Martinsville
is host to two NASCAR Cup events.
South Boston – South Boston Motor Speedway, home track of Ward and Jeff Burton, is a 4/10-mile oval that has racing every Saturday night April – October. The track has been made famous by driver Elliott Sadler for its bologna burgers. The track also has a swimming pool, arcade and playground. It’s on its way to becoming the nation's first “super short track.”
Halifax - Not on the NASCAR circuit,
but every bit as popular, is VIRginia
International Raceway in Halifax County. Its 3.27 mile natural terrain
road course is a renovated, historic track that is fast becoming the
premier motorsports facility of its type in America. This is where NASCAR
drivers learn the road courses!

Each racing season brings a dozen exciting spectator events to VIR featuring vintage and modern sportscars and motorcycles!
The National Hot Rod Association Drag Racing Series returned to Virginia, too!
Danville - Birch Creek Motorsports presents the Eastern US MX Series, the Virginia Cross Country Series and the ATV Grand Nationals.
Bristol - Bristol Motor Speedway has been coined “the world’s fastest half mile” and is one of the most anticipated races of the NASCAR season. BMS opened in July of 1961 on what used to be a dairy farm.
The first race ever at BMS had 42 cars start and only 19 finish. Being a half-mile oval and having 36-degree bankings in the corners, it is a
track that is known for wrecking and flared tempers. The night races add to
the excitement, too.
Radford – Motor Mile Speedway is Southwest Virginia’s only NASCAR-sanctioned track. The track has five divisions competing weekly on a 4/10-mile track. Runs Saturday nights from April – October. Overnight camping is permitted at no cost!
