Jim Law is a throwback to the farmers of another generation.

As the owner of Linden Vineyards in northern Shenandoah Valley, Law loves working the land and the harmony he experiences with nature, neighbors and community. His winery doesn’t have a restaurant or hold special events, but it’s a place where folks can sit on the porch with a glass of wine and gaze at the vineyard and Blue Ridge Mountains.

Law holds in-depth tours of the vineyard and wine cellar on Saturdays, and also conducts special reserve cellar tastings on weekends.

Bouquet, legs, and supple are words that evoke passionate thoughts ... about wine, that is.

From varietals of grapes to fermentation and aging, winemaking is art. A winemakers' decisions through the process of turning the fruit of the vine into bottles of wine determine everything about it - the flavor, smell, alcohol content and even color. Separate the juice from the skins or let the skin color the wine? Ferment it in oak or maybe concrete or stainless steel?

Reserve a food and wine package to take a behind-the-scenes tour at Virginia's wineries. You can also attend a winemaking class at James River Cellars!
