    Enjoy 300 artists and a fun festival atmosphere at the oceanfront during Father's Day Weekend. The Boardwalk Art Show and Festival is one of the oldest and best outdoor fine art shows on the Eastern Seaboard. Produced by the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art, it is ranked as one of the top 15 fine art shows in the country by Sunshine Artist Magazine. This four-day festival features fine art, great shopping, and live entertainment for the entire family.

    This family friendly event will offer: music, launch of the historic batteau, art & crafts, Kid's activities and games, wildlife, history, blacksmith demonstration. Free and open to the public! The Festival takes place from 9am - 2pm. The James River Batteau Festival is an eight day flat boat journey from Lynchburg to near Richmond in the tradition of the Batteau which once carried goods and passengers in Early America. The Batteax will launch at 11:00am.

    The annual Virginia Covered Bridge Festival will be hosted in Woolwine, Virginia between Jacks Creek and Bob White Covered Bridges.  In 2007 Patrick County was named the official state location for the Virginia Covered Bridge Festival.


    Virginia Covered Bridge Festival, Saturday, June 21th, 2014... commencing at 10 am, ending at 4 pm. Events at sites adjacent to Jacks Creek Bridge and Bob White Bridge will include; live music at both locations, a variety of 5 bands at Jacks Creek Covered Bridge site, and 5 traditional bands at the Bob White Covered Bridge  site; a 5-K Run; horse and wagon rides; Cruise-In of antique and unique vehicles; a "duck" race in the river; arts, craft, and food vendors; activities for children including petting zoo and inflatable bouncer; free admission and free available parking. The festival is hosted by the Woolwine Ruritans, Woolwine VFD, and Smith River Rescue Squad, and manned by community volunteers, and is held for the purpose of showcasing Woolwine's heritage.


    With only seven public Covered Bridges in the state of Virginia, Woolwine proudly celebrates two of those historic Covered Bridges within a mile of each other.....travel between the Covered Bridges in a horse-drawn wagon and enjoy the beautiful Virginia scenery!

    Jeff Alt, a talented speaker and award-winning author of A Walk for Sunshine, enjoys sharing his 2,160 mile Appalachian Trail adventures with Shenandoah National Park visitors. Jeff uses humor and adventure in a story telling format. His presentations involve music, slides and personal narration. Alt, an expert hiker, has been Discovery Channel.com and many more.     Come join us in celebration of the 11th riding of the epic Big Pencil to Big Walker METRIC Charity Ride on Saturday, June 21, 2014. Beginning near downtown Wytheville, the ride heads out through the pastoral southwest Virginia counties of Wythe and Bland, with one, two or three climbs of Big Walker Mountain.


    Offers 3 routes:
    Metric Century+ (66 miles - 6,100' climb)
    36-mile (2,300' climb)
    24-mile (1,200' climb)


    This year we have added an exciting incentive for participants in our ride and three other rides in the new New River Cycling Series. For participants who sign up for all four rides ($120 for four great rides for four great causes), your name will be entered in a drawing for a free vacation for two along the Adriatic Coast of Italy, with meals, lodging, bike rentals and guide!     Alternatively to registering in advance for all four rides (and you don't actually have to ride), you can also participate in three of the rides through day of registration, if you need to be more spontaneous about your weekend rides!
