The Swiss Bakery
Virginia Green is the Commonwealth of Virginia’s campaign to promote environmentally-friendly practices in all aspects of Virginia’s tourism industry. Virginia Green has established "core activities" specific to each sector of tourism, and these practices are considered the required minimum for participation in the program. However, Virginia Green encourages its participants to reduce their environmental impacts in all aspects of their operations, and this profile provides a full list of all their “green” activities. These are the activities that guests / customers can expect to find when they visit this facility.
The Swiss Bakery
We are a retail bakery and cafe.
We deliberately included Green design elements when we expanded and renovated our second bakery, including the following: - Millwork of bamboo plywood with low-VOC water-based finishes - Display countertops of Neapolitan Strand bamboo - Service countertops of PaperStone (laminate recycled paper) - Backsplashes of Ecoresin sheets with floating rings of bamboo - Yolo zero-VOC latex paints using mild protein - Non-toxic water-based finishes to seal woodworking - Solvent-free pigments, varnishes and adhesives - LED lights and compact fluorescent lightbulbs - Energy-efficient, tankless hot water heater - Water-efficient low-flow toilet - Use of recycled and salvaged cabinets, chairs and appliances - Use of recycled wood from the Swiss Embassy Residence
We buy locally-grown, seasonal produce.
