Welcome to the Richmond Region

  • This is not your forefathers’ vacation spot.

  • Dominion Riverrock

From international bike races to marathons to NASCAR and major college sports, this is the place for sports lovers. In 2015, the region will welcome the World Road Cycling Championship, the sport’s premiere international event.

    Kings Dominion

Family memories start here, at speeds up to 50 mph. Kings Dominion, the Children’s Museum, a hands-on Science Museum, go-kart racing, a full-fledged zoo and more make this an unforgettable vacation spot.

    Capital Ale house

Eat, drink and enjoy the Richmond Region. There are more than 900 restaurants to choose from here – and the Region’s new interest in craft beer means there’s always something interesting on tap.

    Tattoo

Yes, we’re the place of Jefferson, Patrick Henry and other historic leaders. But we’re also a place of tattoo artists, festivals and an awesome music scene. It could make this the youngest-feeling historic town in the nation.

    First Friday

There’s always something fascinating going on in the Richmond Region, where the arts often take to the streets. Galleries, art walks, world-class museums and events give the region an artistic vibe.

    Maymont

Make the Richmond region your family’s playground. Be sure to check out Maymont, a huge urban escape with acres of rolling flora, a historic mansion and a petting zoo. Or visit the breathtaking Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.

    Monument Avenue

Richmond’s Monument Avenue was called “the most beautiful avenue in the world.” It’s just one of the areas in this region that are filled with stories in this place of battlefields, museums and historic sites.

    Henricus Historical Park

Experience history. As in, hear the muskets go off. This is the place where Pocahontas lived, where Jefferson and Poe walked the streets, where the Civil War was fought in the streets, and where visitors can see it all firsthand.

    Rafting on the James River

Richmond is on the historic James River – and Class IV rapids run right through the center of the city’s downtown. It’s no wonder Richmond was named “Best Town Ever” by Outside magazine.

Historic Richmond Region - Easy to Love

It’s been named the “Best Town Ever” by Outside Magazine. Pocahontas lived here. Jefferson governed here. Poe worked here. And the Geico caveman was born here.

It’s a place where an artistic vibe is felt in everything from the music to the architecture to the more than 900 awesome restaurants, and where historic markers stand at practically every corner.

Jump in a kayak and take on the Class IV rapids that run right through the center of downtown. Explore the Region’s antebellum architecture. See where Patrick Henry said, “Give me liberty or give me death.” And discover why Richmond is listed as the third most tattooed city in the country. Here, you can walk, jog or dance in the footsteps of our forefathers. Cruise the art scene, the horse country, the concerts and the cuisine. The Richmond Region is a place filled with incredible stories and you’re welcome to be a part of them.
