Historical Significance
The grave of General Andrew Lewis was moved to this site in the 1890's, and his remains and those of a son were placed beneath an obelisk in the center circle of the cemetery. Many other early residents and prominent developers of Salem are buried here, as well as veterans of the War of 1812, the Mexican War, and the Civil War. Charles Johnston, a survivor of Indian captivity in 1790, lies near General Lewis
