Historical Significance
Salem's downtown district reveals nearly two centuries of development. The Old Post House, now part of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, dates to the 1820s and is the oldest structure in downtown. President Andrew Jackson frequently stayed in Salem, and Lewis and Clark likely passed through here after their voyage west.
