Historical Significance

Originally part of Carter's Fort built in 1784 the Carter Cabin was passed down through six generations of Carters. Settlers along the Wilderness Road would retreat to Carter's Fort during the threat of Indian attacks. It was donated to the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1998 and moved to Natural Tunnel State Park.
