Historical Significance
The City of Winchester, the oldest city in the Valley of
Virginia, has much cause for celebration for it was
from this city that George Washington began all of
his major careers as surveyor, as soldier and as
statesman. Attractions, sites, and historical markers
provide more information.
George Washington Office Museum Today
Between September 1755 and December 1756, Washington kept an office in this small log cabin while he supervised the construction of Fort Loudoun. Original Fort Loudoun cannon on premises, survey equipment, and period artifacts. Get a closer look at George Washington's real hair on display! (Museum opens at Noon on Sundays). Open April 1-October 31.
