Historical Significance
Fort Chiswell was located along the Wilderness Road. The fort was constructed in 1758 as a protection against the Cherokee Indians and to provide supplies for travelers. Nearby stands the Shot Tower, built more than 150 years ago, to make ammunition for the firearms of the early settlers.
