Get Out on the Wine Trail of Botetourt County

One of Virginia's oldest counties is one of its newest delights. Your getaway will reveal the history, charm and hospitality of life in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Day 1:

Discover a taste of the good life as you explore the Wine Trail of Botetourt County. You will see that the fresh fall air and fertile valleys of the Blue Ridge provide the ideal conditions for growing grapes.

Make Virginia Mountain Vineyards your first stop and enjoy a glass of your favorite wine as you sit in the gazebo and absorb the beauty of the surrounding mountains.

Head for dinner at Three Lil' Pigs barbeque restaurant where you can choose from either North Carolina pulled pork or Tennessee style BBQ.

End your day by checking into the Fincastle Vineyard Bed and Breakfast where David and Georgia will welcome you to their charming old farmhouse with a glass of wine that they have made using traditional old-world techniques.

Day 2:

After an early breakfast, you're off to the Town of Buchanan to meet one of the twins of Twin River Outfitter who will set you up with the equipment you will need to take a memorable paddle down the only section of the Upper James River designated as a Virginia Scenic River. This 3-4 hour float will showcase some of the most beautiful stretches of the river in full fall splendor.

After lunch, do a little shopping for art and antiques.

Later, head to the final stop on the Wine Trail of Botetourt, Blue Ridge Vineyards, where you will sip award-winning wines against the backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains with a harvest moon.
