A must-see, this regional cultural center includes galleries displaying permanent collections and changing exhibitions, seven acres of formal gardens, the Glen Burnie House dating to 1794, and The Trails at the MSV, a recently opened free-admission 90-acre art park with miles of trails.
Along with changing exhibitions, the galleries display impressive collections of Shenandoah Valley decorative arts and a fascinating collection of miniature houses. The formal landscape surrounding the Glen Burnie House includes rose, statue, vegetable, Asian, and perennial gardens. Inside the house, explore the stories of those who lived in Glen Burnie from 1796 to 1992, including MSV benefactor Julian Wood Glass Jr. (1910-1992) and his partner R. Lee Taylor (1924-2000). The galleries are open year-round Tuesday through Sunday. The house and gardens are open April through December (closed Monday). Admission is free to ages 12 & under (may exclude special exhibitions) and $10-$15 for all others.
Open daily from 7 a.m. to dusk, The Trails at the MSV includes outdoor art installations, and 3+ miles of paved and rustic trails for walking, hiking, and biking. Leashed dogs are welcome.
Picnics are encouraged in the gardens (April-December); snacks and drinks are available for purchase in the Museum Store.
