Born a slave, "Sister" Caroline Terry lived most of her life in Rappahannock County. Her owner bought several buildings in town including the Sperryville Hotel (now Hopkins Ordinary), which housed many famous generals during the war. Over the war years, when thousands of soldiers from both sides camped here, she managed to collect many war relics and stories. Trails sign is located at the footbridge.
