Friends of the Lower Appomattox River (FOLAR) is a nonprofit organization committed to ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to access and enjoy a healthy natural river environment for generations to come.
The Lower Appomattox River flows on a continuous 22 mile route connecting nature and culture through six jurisdictions in Central Virginia - from Lake Chesdin in Chesterfield and Dinwiddie County to the confluence with the James River at historic City Point in Hopewell. FOLAR has developed a network of parks and walking trails along the Lower Appomattox River that are open for enjoyment by all.
FOLAR works to protect and promote the Lower Appomattox River by organizing streamside restoration projects; park, trail, and water access developments; and environmental stewardship and educational programs. Individuals, families, and organizations are encouraged to volunteer with FOLAR's cleanups and projects.
