Saint Mary's Wilderness is Virginia's largest wilderness area with approximately 10,000 acres of beautiful scenery that appeals to any visitor, from photographers to hikers to anglers.
Located in the Blue Ridge Mountains, this popular hiking destination has elevations from 1700 to 3400 feet and offers 17 miles of trails. Until the 1950s, the Saint Mary's River served as a mine for manganese ore and iron ore. Today, the Saint Mary's River allows visitors to fish for trout and observe its waterfall.
