With a slogan like “Virginia is for Lovers,” it’s no secret why people travel to Virginia for a little love. The slogan has been used since 1969. LOVEWorks, which travelers see all over Virginia, are a new tradition. The signs, which spell out “Love,” showcase Virginian creativity and innovation. Nelson County small business owners have embraced LOVEWorks, and the signs can be seen all over the sunrise side of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Take a short weekend trip to Nelson County and experience the LOVE!
Wild Man Dan’s Beercentric B&B is located in Afton along the Nelson 151 trail. The beer enthusiasts at the helm of this unique craft brewery offer tours, beer classes, and revolving taps. Adding to the experience is a LOVEWork made out of kegs and scrap wood that features their logo. In the picture, you’ll even see a furry friend running by! Stay the night at Wild Man Dan’s B&B to enhance the experience.
At nearby Cardinal Point Winery, those driving by can see another sign of LOVE. Wine barrels are intricately redesigned via cutouts and splits to spell the “L” word; three barrels were used in all. The consistent medium works perfectly when you think about Cardinal Point’s consistently delicious wines. Also, LOVE is literally in the air at Veritas Vineyard and Winery, where thousands of corks spell out Virginia’s favorite word above the wine bar. The attention to detail characterizes Veritas perfectly.
If you’re looking for excitement, you’ll want to take a trip by the Ski Barn at Wintergreen, where LOVE is spelled out colorfully in ski and snowboard equipment. If you aren’t getting off Route 29, you’ll still have a chance at LOVE in Nelson. Even though Virginia Distillery Company is safely tucked away from the roar of traffic on route 29, their LOVEWork sign is easy to see. The Virginia Distillery logo is featured in the work, while barrel staves, along with a barrel head, do the rest of the spelling job. A LOVE sign is featured in their traveling exhibit as well. Stay at Orchard House B&B in Lovingston for comfort and small-town luxury. The newest LOVEwork sign is in Schuyler between the Walton Hamner House and John and Olivia's Bed and Breakfast
The natural beauty of the landscape proves to be the perfect backdrop for LOVEworks, especially at Blue Mountain Barrel House. Check out their eclectic LOVE sign. As you ride around Nelson County’s towns, stop and enjoy a gorgeous photo opportunity. You’ll look good in the picture, and you’ll feel great, too.
