The Montebello area is one of Nelson County’s hidden gems. It stands atop the Blue Ridge Mountains, near the Appalachian Trail and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Shopping, hiking, and other experiences are available to adventurers looking for an out-of-the-way place to reconnect with family, get away from the familiar, and enjoy new experiences. The weather is typically mild, so even the winter months are inviting in Montebello. Step respectfully away from the crowds when you feel ready to travel. The comforting amenities and kind locals will make you want to make this community a new travel-tradition for you and your loved ones.
Montebello offers many types of outdoor recreation, camping, a trout fishing pond and many hiking trails in the area. Crabtree Falls, a popular hiking destination, is nearby as well.
Cabin fever? Warm up in Nelson County’s wonderland this winter. Whether you’re hiking, shopping, or appreciating good food and drink, you’re going to have a great time in the Montebello area. Hike to Spy Rock for 360-degree views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. With summer’s leaves long gone, the features of the mountains can be seen more clearly. You’ll have a great view of the Religious Range from there: The Priest, The Friar, and The Cardinal. Wear good shoes; you’ll need to do some rock scrambling to reach the top. We promise that the view is worth it. Afterwards, stop by the cozy Montebello Country Store for souvenirs, cold-weather supplies, and a bowl of the best chili around. Check out Basic Necessities Café, Cheese, and Wine Shop in nearby Nellysford for a delicious lunch or dinner. Need to pick up some bubbly for New Year’s Eve? Stop at 12 Ridges in Vesuvius for cold-climate sparkling wines and grab a peek at the amazing view from their deck. Settle in for a long Winter’s nap under a quilt at one of Nelson’s cozy B&Bs if you’ve got time.
