Pets are welcome at all Virginia State Parks, as long as they're on a leash or in an enclosed area at all times. A nominal fee is charged at the front gate for pets staying overnight.
Nothing's more fun than letting your dog walk beside you along the trails, eating hotdogs straight from the campfire and snuggling together in the tent.

Dogs on leashes are permitted at Historic Jamestowne, too. The Dog Digest did an article on this dog-friendly site, which celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2009.
The Appalachian Trail welcomes dogs, too!
