    Quick Information

Take a trip up the coast for unbeatable waterside sights, activities, and seafood. Start your journey on US 13 by driving on Chesapeake Bay Bridge from Virginia Beach. From this 18-mile bridge-tunnel complex, travelers can see graceful shore birds soaring above the waves and huge Navy ships maneuvering in the distance.

Once you reach land again, don’t miss the village of Onancock to experience the fresh coastal air firsthand on foot or, if you’re feeling adventurous, by hang glider. If you are in town for the evening, consider a sunset cruise onboard The Major Gayle and then savoring delicious local crab cakes dockside at The Mallards at the Wharf.

Seafood is also plentiful just north on Chincoteague Island. If you don’t mind getting your hands dirty, you can crab, clam, and fish a meal straight from the coves. With more than 14,000 acres of beach, dunes, marsh, and maritime forest to explore, eating is just part of the fun.

Adjacent to Chincoteague is the Virginia portion of the Assateague Island, famous for wild ponies. Horse lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike will love camping on the beach and stargazing on a clear night.

Take a summer weekend to enjoy the natural beauty of the Chesapeake Bay. The warm breezes, fresh tastes, and abundant wildlife are sure to leave you relaxed and filled with great memories.
