Arguably the original location for the invention of Brunswick stew, Brunswick County was created in 1720 from parts of three other counties. Full of parks and southern style experiences, the county knows how to make its visitors feel like they are home. From family time at the park to escaping into the county, Brunswick holds the answers. Brunswick Lake is well known and loved by locals and offers 157 acres available for kayaking, fishing, and canoeing. The historical site of Fort Christanna is a 25 acre overview of Governor Spotswood’s fort from 1714. Offered at the fort are kiosks, a garden area, a cannon, and a beautiful walking trail. For a more historical experience, a Civil War Trail marker was created at the Brunswick County Courthouse in Lawrenceville honoring when Union troops decided not to burn the records in the courthouse in 1864.
Lake Gaston runs along 350 miles and holds 20,300 acres of water. There are areas for fishing, hunting, camping, boating, and even fun water spots. Please bring your boat because public boat ramps are available! Lake Rawlings Park offers camping and rental units, swimming, and even scuba diving. The county has even more rivers and parks that offer trails to walk and enjoy the wildlife of the forests and river shores.
