Caroline County is located in the Northern Virginia region roughly midway between Richmond and Washington, D.C. It is bordered on the north by the Rappahannock River, on the south by the Mattaponi River, and on the southwest by the North Anna River.
The National Park Service operates several Civil War battlefields in this
area, including the Stonewall Jackson Shrine. Also, Fort A.P. Hill military base is in the county. It serves as the
permanent site of the National Boy Scout Jamboree.
Just outside the county line along I-95 is Kings Dominion, a major theme park of of mid-Atlantic region that also features WaterWorks, its own waterpark.
