Ever heard of Lord Cornwallis or General Lafayette? Come explore the same beautiful county they did. Goochland County was formed from Henrico County and was named after Sir William Gooch, the Royal Lieutenant Governor of Virginia during 1727. It is home to Thomas Jefferson’s estate Elkhill and many more beautiful and historic plantations and churches including Tuckahoe Plantation and Byrd Presbyterian Church.
Wish to travel even further back in time? How about visiting the historic Three Chop Trail, a Native American trail, which runs through much of the county. This county is not only filled with a history to learn about, but a history to feel and experience for yourself. Need something a little more modern? Visit between March and October and come see a double feature at the Goochland Drive-In for that retro feeling and great family friendly atmosphere.
