Surry

LocationVirginia

Come take in the serenity of Surry County, Virginia. Just a short ferry ride away from Jamestown, here is where history and the beauty of the east creates a home. Proud of their Southern cuisine, the people of Surry are warm and inviting to newcomers ready to try something new. From Bacon’s Castle, a Jacobean brick house used as a fort during Bacon’s Rebellion, to Hampton Roads Vineyard & Winery and every place in between, this is the county to experience enjoyment. Full of historic sights, like the Smith’s Fort Plantation built in the eighteenth century and home to Jacob Faulcon is something that can be visited along with the ruins of a fort of Captain John Smith’s. Locations are close by and inviting.

Spend some time in the Hog Island Wildlife Management Area where you can find 3,908 acres of open land, forest, and ponds. And when you’re done, make sure to check out one of the many museums in the county to learn of all the incredible people and things that happened there. The county has easy access to the Jamestown Ferry where you can travel to anywhere in Virginia’s History Triangle. Come soak in the sun and rural life.
