The L & S Diner, a Harrisonburg landmark, re-opened in early December 2008 after being closed briefly. New owner Linda Raines has rehired all the longtime waitresses and cooks. Raines' love for the L & S Diner, which opened in 1947, began as a small child when she ate there with her father and grandfather after they had visited the stockyard sale. The same people eat there, day after day. It feels a little like the TV show, "Cheers", but without the booze, says Raines. Known for their signature fried chicken, big old-fashioned country breakfasts, and home cooking, the 24-seat restaurant operates for breakfast and lunch between 5:30am and 2:30pm Monday through Saturday.
