Franklin County, Virginia Kicks Off Commemoration of 100th Anniversary of Prohibition!
Free Screenings of Award-winning PBS Film by Ken Burns & Lynn Novick
On Jan. 16, 2020, Franklin County, Virginia will kick off commemorative events honoring the centennial of Prohibition. Franklin County’s legacy and long-established moniker, “Moonshine Capital of the World,” was an outcome of the Prohibition Era, which lasted from 1920 to 1933. The Franklin County Public Library, in partnership with the Blue Ridge Institute & Museum, Westlake Cinema, and Franklin County Tourism Office, will host free, public screenings of the three-part PBS film, “Prohibition.” Dates and locations, which vary, follow. All screenings run 1pm-3pm.
*Jan. 16: "Part 1: A Nation of Drunkards," Hosted at the Blue Ridge Institute & Museum, Ferrum College, 20 Museum Dr., Ferrum, VA 24088
(Screening preceded by a kickoff announcement for the centennial of Prohibition, as well as a look ahead to April's 2020 Franklin County Moonshine Heritage Month.)
