Join the Staff Members and volunteers at the Hampton Roads Naval Museum as they re-open their gallery to feature their new exhibit The Ten Thousand Day War at Sea: The U.S. Navy in Vietnam, 1950-1975.
The exhibit discusses the U.S. Navy's role in intelligence and special operations, the contributions of the surface forces, the role of air power, the unique nature of riverine operations, and the vast capabilities of the U.S. Navy's logistical and combat support operations and educates visitors about the pivotal role played by the U.S. Navy in the Vietnam War. The exhibit utilizes the U.S. Navy's rich historical collections, multi-media presentations, and interactive components that will encourage family learning, thougtful discourse, and recognition for the sacrifices of over 1.8 million sailors who served during the conflict. The exhibit features many never before seen artifacts, and features oral history videos with over 40 Vietnam Veterans to help make visitors make importantn connections through personal experiences. The exhibit represents the first major renovation of our gallery since relocating from their original location aboard Naval Station Norfolk's Pennsylvania House in 1994; and it occupies over 4,700 square feet of exhibit space.
