After nearly a 200-year hiatus and a multi-million dollar reconstruction, George Washington's Distillery & Gristmill are back in business. Located at the original site, George Washington's Gristmill™ highlights his visions for America's future as "granary to the world;" while his distillery is the only site in North America that demonstrates 18th-century distilling from seed to barrel. The site is open for tours from April 1 through October 31.
Costumed interpreters bring George Washington’s Distillery & Gristmill to life. Enjoy guided tours of both fully functioning reconstructions. Demonstrations of the operation of the gristmill are offered daily. At the distillery, interpreters discuss 18th-century fermentation and distilling techniques and show how the boiler, mash tubs, and copper pot stills function.
A free shuttle departs from the Donald W. Reynolds Museum & Education Center to the Distillery & Gristmill site. It runs continuously from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Shuttles service to the Distillery & Gristmill site are included in admission.
