The Virginia Artisan Trail Network identifies and markets each region’s unique culture and artisan traditions, focusing on “handcrafted and locally grown.” The program is an important economic development and tourism initiative. Connecting and showcasing local businesses and points of interest as a singular, cohesive visitor destination generates increased visibility for the region and encourages extended stays by visitors. In 2016, Prince William/Manassas, Stafford and Fauquier Counties partnered with the Artisans Center of Virginia to create a unique regional trail. Washington’s Backyard Artisan Trail joins other successful trails including: Virginia’s Eastern Shore Artisan Trail, the Virginia Oyster Trail, the HeART & Soil of the Shenandoah Valley Artisan Trail and others across the Commonwealth.
