Visit the only museum in the world dedicated to preserving & sharing the contributions of women to the United States Army.
The service of women in supporting the Army began in 1775 and their amazing stories from the Revolutionary War to the those of women serving today will be shared with you through interactive exhibits, videos, fim presentations and the Memorial Garden.
It all begins with "camp followers" who cooked and did laundry, but others disguised themselves as men and served as soldiers. I wasn't until 1901 that women's roles were formally recognized with establishment of the Army Nurse Corps. Do you know about the "Hello Girls", bilingual telephone operators who were sent to France to assist Gen. Pershing. 210,000 women accepted the challenge during WWII and the Women's Army Corps was established. See the 1945 wedding dress made from an Army parachute and a bathing suit made from a khaki uniform and shoestrings. Hear the incredible stories of the Nisei, Japanese-American women from Hawaii and from internment camps whose contributions were in cryptology & communications. The inspirational stories continue through today's Army women. Combat aviation put women in helicopters; you'll see one.
This museum is an American treasure; a place of pride for all women. Families, groups are welcome.
