My dream of becoming a full time potter began with an early, but short-lived exposure in college in 1975. I was fascinated by the rhythm, smell and feel of the clay as it rotated in perfect symmetry.
Although I am mostly self-taught, I have had several other somewhat unorthodox training opportunities including a year-long weekly apprenticeship with a full time potter in Vienna, Virginia and an invaluable two week, live-in internship with a production potter in Seagrove, North Carolina. I continue to learn and improve my work by attending workshops, classes, and by seeking out other potters.
My husband, Ken, and I built a house and a pottery studio/shop in King George, VA in 2004. After working in ophthalmology for the previous 20 years and potting in my basement in my free time, I am thrilled to have a wonderful studio with a beautiful view of the woods and wetlands and to finally be a full time potter.
My enthusiasm for pottery has not diminished over the years. My work concentrates on traditional, functional folk pottery. My pots are meant to be used in the home, to improve your quality of life every day.
