Find that “hidden gem” on the road trip you’ve been meaning to take – and Find It In Farmville!
What do you want to do today? If you want to go to a football game at one of the oldest colleges in the United States, choose a Hampden-Sydney College home game! Hampden-Sydney College was the last college created under the British crown and has been in continuous operation since 1775.
But, first start your Saturday at the Farmville Farmer's Market and buy from local farmers; learn something new about soap making or growing and using herbs. Farmville’s Community Marketplace is a former tobacco warehouse and a covered outdoor venue where the Farmer’s Market has been hosted for many years.
Spend the afternoon hiking or cycling the 31 miles of High Bridge Trail State Park, and don’t miss going under the bridge for a truly awe-inspiring walk back into time. Several of the original brick train struts are still there – imagine building those without cranes; without machinery! Just note, that while the walk down to the riverbed under the bridge is easy – that walk back up is much more challenging! 😉
After your time at High Bridge, you will walk through Farmville Downtown where you will find Green Front Furniture, known locally as “The Mall of America of Farmville”, or boutique shops like The Sleeping Bee, Mainly Clay or Talley’s Jewelry. Or lovely little restaurants like Uptown Coffee Café or Walker’s Diner; just know that whatever you are looking for, you will find it here in Downtown Farmville!
Did I forget? Where did you book your overnight stay? The local boutique hotel, Hotel Weyenoke? Or in one of the six Tipis at the Outdoor Adventure Park? Or maybe a cabin at Twin Lakes State Park? We also have several chain hotels run by the nicest folks you will meet anywhere!
Don’t forget to challenge yourself at The Outdoor Adventure Park on the aerial zipline obstacle course! There are 20 ziplines out there, but be warned! 😉 You will have to earn your way to each and every one of them!
