Everyone can enjoy the hands-on experience of fresh, pick-your-own food. Visit the farm market that supplies foliage for The White House Rose Garden, gaze at spectacular views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and even tie the knot at one of Nelson County’s orchards, farms, or produce stands. In addition, choose from an array of apples, Asian pears, blackberries, blueberries, cherries, nectarines, peaches, plums, strawberries, sweet cider, fruit jams, jellies, and more!
Drive into Nelson under gorgeous blue skies when the days heat up! A day trip to Nelson’s Orchards are is the cure for bored kids on summer break. Stop at Drumheller’s Orchard, a 5th -generation, family-owned and operated farm located in Lovingston. Drumheller’s has peaches in the summer and many other types of produce year-round. Sweet, delicious tree-ripened peaches are available at Saunders Brothers Orchard from late June until September, and the farmer’s market is open in-season. If you’re bringing the kids, that’s great! Drumheller’s Orchard, Seaman’s Orchard, Dickie Brothers Orchard, and Saunders Brothers are all within a short drive of Lovington, and all have plenty of space for kids to roam. Pick-your-own options are always exciting; kids will love the adventure of picking blackberries in the summer at Hilltop Berry Farm & Winery.
After picking berries with the kids, enjoy a treat for the grown-ups by participating in the Annual Hop Harvest at Blue Mountain Brewery or Blue Mountain Barrel House. Volunteer two hours of your time to pick hops at one of Blue Mountain’s hop fields and get a free lunch! Enjoy a craft beer while you’re there!
