Geneva Welch is a nationally known artist, specializing in watercolors and oil paintings of animals and country scenes. Through the art medium of oil, she is able to capture the depth and vibrancy of her subjects with challenging clarity. She has been greatly influenced by her appreciation of the Dutch and Flemish paintings with their attention to details and building up of thin layers of color glazes. The misty backgrounds in her Rappahannock country scenes are probably her trademark. They keep the scene simple, serene, and contemplative. She suggests more than she depicts, and her work shows a love for creation as well as the Creator. The Geneva Welch Gallery features her limited edition prints, note cards and original paintings along with gift items of jewelry and hand painted items. Closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
