Blackstone, Virginia is now officially for Lovers, just like the state.
Eric Nash and Thomas Payne have erected the community’s first “LOVEworks” sign, on the south side of Clay’s Garden Center & Farm Market on South Main Street.
“We really wanted to have a LOVE sign in Blackstone,” Nash recalls. “So we decided to grab the reins.”
The letters include about 900 pounds of recycled metal and wood and represent “many hours of welding,” says Payne, who speaks from experience, having handled the welding himself.
They plan to have the “O” letter will include a different theme every month or so and will be painted accordingly by art students at Kenston Forest School. Currently, the big “O” is a wreath.
“So far, we’ve had WONDERFULLY POSITIVE feedback from the community, and we welcome anyone with positive input to contact us! We’d love to start seeing people taking photos and sharing special memories around our creation.”
The seven-ft. tall letters will be lighted at night and decorated for Christmas.
Visitors are encouraged to take photos with the LOVEwork and share with loved ones on Facebook at www.Facebook.com/VirginiaisforLovers or on Twitter with the special hashtag #LOVEVA. A complete list of the LOVEwork locations is at www.Virginia.org/LOVE.
