Virginia is for Music Lovers

September is Virginia's Music Heritage Month
Celebrating the rich origins of music in Southwest Virginia and across the state.

Virginia’s music scene boasts a variety of different genres such as bluegrass, country, gospel, R&B, rock and roll, jazz, folk, and more. Diverse music venues ranging from historic concert halls to small intimate settings, provide music lovers across the state with hundreds of performances a year by world-famous musicians.

Know before you go! Please wear a mask or face covering when indoors and observe Virginia’s current safety guidelines when you travel.

Hailed as the birthplace of country music, Virginia is without a doubt home to Bluegrass legends and contemporary virtuosos. Check out the trailers below for the new Ken Burns documentary, "Country Music", and "Fiddlin'" , an award winning film celebrating the massive Galax Fiddler's convention.

Here you'll find a variety of year-round events showcasing Virginia's rich musical history such as the American Music Festival, LOCKN’ Festival, Galax Old Fiddlers’ Convention, FloydFest, Richmond Folk Festival, Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion, and Red Wing Roots Music Festival along with a countless number of smaller music festivals. Please note: Many music festivals and concerts in music venues across the state have been postponed until 2021 due to COVID-19.

Whether you go to a small club, attend a symphony, follow Virginia’s Crooked Road Music Trail, groove to some jazz or rock out at a festival, you can still feel that same passion and energy in every Virginia performance.
