This November, Virginia is celebrating its rich Customs, Cultures & Cuisines with special food and heritage festivals all across the state. Learn about the convergence of three cultures – Native American, Africans, and English setters – and their infinite contributions to Virginia’s culture today.

    Pocahontas Reframed Storytellers Film Festival | November 21-24 | Byrd Theater
    The Pocahontas Reframed: Storytellers Film Festival includes Native American-affiliated classic and recently released films. The Festival honors the contributions of Native Americans and reinvigorates conversations about telling stories of indigenous life.
  • ASWAD Conference
    10th Biennial Association For The Study Of The Worldwide African Diaspora Conference | November 5-9 | William & Mary
    This scholarly conference will feature cutting-edge panels, cultural events, film festivals, and excursions to local historical sites that highlight and celebrate the global dimensions of the African Diaspora and the centrality of black people worldwide to the making of the modern world.
  • Salute to the Military
    Salute To The Military And Democracy | November 9 | Sandler Center
    A Joint Service Band drawing from local professional bands to include Fleet Forces Band (Navy), TRADOC Band (Army), U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band (Air Force) and elements from the Armed Forces School of Music (Army, Navy, Marine Corps) will delight the audience. This all-star military ensemble will have conductors from each professional band leading portions of the show.

Celebrate Oyster Month in Virginia with a trip to one of the Commonwealth’s eight distinct oyster regions. And if you are already looking forward to Thanksgiving, we have plenty of harvest festivals and regional food celebrations to tide you over until Turkey Day. Check out our wine events as well.
