Music festival season in Virginia is still going strong all summer and throughout August, many big name musicians will be coming to Virginia. From major country acts to the biggest names in rock and pop, catch your favorite artists and discover new ones all over the Commonwealth.

MUSIC FESTIVALS

The City of Galax has the world tapping its feet as the Old Fiddlers’ Convention, a week-long celebration of Oldtime and Bluegrass music that takes place in Felts Park Aug. 7-12. Musicians and fans from around the world travel to Galax to perform and hear the music that defines the sound of the Blue Ridge Mountains. A few hundred come with their instruments to show their skills and compete for the cash prizes.

Experience the world’s best jazz and R&B music set against the beautiful rolling hills of the historic grounds of Maymont in Richmond at the Richmond Jazz & Music Festival Aug. 12-13. Acts performing include the legendary Chaka Khan, saxophonist Kamasi Washington, Dave Koz and Friends Summer Horns with Candy Dulfer and Eric Darius, plus Coco Jones, Ledisi, Wale, Kirk Whalum, Joe, Lalah Hathaway, MAJOR., and many more.

Hear 80 of the world’s most acclaimed musicians performing in more than 30 concerts in historic downtown venues at the Staunton Music Festival Aug. 11-20. The daily concerts range from eclectic and feature chamber music from the Middle Ages to world premieres, performed by vocalists and instrumentalists from across Europe and the U.S. There are also free pre-concert talks and special offers with numerous downtown restaurants and hotels.

The Shenandoah Valley Music Festival has been bringing great music to the Shenandoah Valley for more than 50 years. Each summer, the festival presents eight to 10 concerts, featuring nationally recognized, award-winning artists. Acts performing this year include Forever Motown (Aug. 18) and Steep Canyon Rangers (Aug. 19).

On Aug. 18-19, the Norfolk Waterfront Jazz Festival is Hampton Roads’ longest-running outdoor jazz festival featuring a mix of Grammy award-winning artists and chart-toppers performing in Town Point Park on the downtown Norfolk waterfront.
