There are two kinds of Monticello trails in Charlottesville - one for wine lovers and one for history lovers. We’ll start with The Monticello Wine Trail, which was recognized by Wine Enthusiast as the 2023 Wine Region of the Year. Nearly 45 member wineries make up the trail including Barboursville Vineyards, King Family Vineyards, and Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards. A variety of tours are available for groups seeking a designated driver. 

On to history - the Saunders-Monticello Trail is a peaceful walking path that leads directly to Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson.

For a number of unique retail and dining options, the Downtown Mall is a fantastic place to shop and stroll.

NORTHERN VIRGINIA

With the historic waterfront of Alexandria, endless shopping opportunities, and incredible cuisine from all over the world, Northern Virginia is an ideal spot for your next girlfriend's getaway.

In Alexandria, make a reservation to sample the tasting menu at Nasime Japanese Restaurant or indulge a Thai craving at Sisters Thai. Wind down the evening with a cocktail at Old Hat Bar or King & Rye Cocktail Garden. For bubbles and bites, try Ms. Peacock’s Champagne Lounge in Arlington, which calls itself an “intimate salon from a bygone era”. Head to Vienna for ample portions in a beautiful setting with a terrace at Bansari Indian Cuisine.

RICHMOND

Richmond is perfect for a girlfriend's getaway with its eclectic mix of artsy neighborhoods, lively food scene, and rich history, offering a fun and dynamic experience for friends looking to explore and unwind.

For drinks with a view, head to Stable Craft Brewing & Kitchen in Waynesboro or grab a cider at Ciders from Mars located right in downtown Staunton.

MIDDLEBURG

Exuding quaint village charm and surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside filled with award-winning wineries, Middleburg is a serenely stylish destination for a girl's weekend.

Middleburg has something for everyone, from luxury resorts to historic inns and quaint bed and breakfasts. Middleburg is an excellent destination for those groups looking to relax at a slower pace for a few days. Peruse antique shops and local boutiques or make a spa appointment at the Salamander.  Visit a few of the many wineries the area has to offer, including Boxwood Winery, Cana Vineyards, Greenhill Vineyards, and 50 West Vineyards. For added convenience, a tasting tour through Spirited Tours is a great way to check out a variety of wineries throughout the region. Whatever is on the agenda, make sure taking in the scenic horse country all around is at the top of the list.

Options abound—tapas, oysters, fine dining, and more. Consider visiting seafood spot King Street Oyster Bar or the wine bar Tremolo for tapas and an impressive wine list. If celebrations are in order, the Conservatory at Goodstone Inn & Restaurant is known for its fine dining and innovative menu.
