Six Fun-Filled Girlfriend's Getaways in Virginia

Sometimes, you just need a getaway with your closest girlfriends! No matter what kind of trip you’re seeking - country or city, mountains or beach - there’s a destination in Virginia perfect for catching up, exploring, and having some fabulous meals. CHARLOTTESVILLE

Charlottesville is a fantastic destination for a girlfriend’s getaway with its charming downtown, scenic vineyards, and vibrant cultural scene. This Central Virginia city is the perfect blend of relaxation and adventure.

Where to Stay

The Doyle Hotel offers a great central location to experience all that Charlottesville has to offer. The Doyle’s rooftop bar, featuring views of both the Blue Ridge Mountains and downtown Charlottesville, is a great place to grab a drink with girlfriends. What to Do

There are two kinds of Monticello trails in Charlottesville - one for wine lovers and one for history lovers. We’ll start with The Monticello Wine Trail, which was recognized by Wine Enthusiast as the 2023 Wine Region of the Year. Nearly 45 member wineries make up the trail including Barboursville Vineyards, King Family Vineyards, and Pippin Hill Farm & Vineyards. A variety of tours are available for groups seeking a designated driver. 

On to history - the Saunders-Monticello Trail is a peaceful walking path that leads directly to Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson.

For a number of unique retail and dining options, the Downtown Mall is a fantastic place to shop and stroll.

Where to Eat

For breakfast, grab bagels from Bodo’s or sit down for a leisurely meal at MarieBette Café & Bakery. Feast Café & Market is a great stop for a light bite for lunch, or if you’re headed west towards the wineries, call in a pickup order for sandwiches to Greenwood Grocery in Crozet. Make a reservation at Tonic or Mas Tapas for dinner - both restaurants feature small plates that are great for sharing.

NORTHERN VIRGINIA

With the historic waterfront of Alexandria, endless shopping opportunities, and incredible cuisine from all over the world, Northern Virginia is an ideal spot for your next girlfriend's getaway. 

Where to Stay

For walkability and charm, stay at Morrison House in beautiful Old Town Alexandria in a prime location near the waterfront and just a block from King Street. Another option is the boutique Archer Hotel which is located in Fairfax County’s Mosaic District with shops and restaurants just steps away. For a splurge, consider the Ritz-Carlton in Tysons Corner, directly connected to Tysons Galleria.

What to Do

The question isn’t so much what to do, but how to fit it all in! Rent bikes and explore the outdoors with a ride along the paved trail at Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) Railroad Regional Park or get steps in by shopping along King Street in Alexandria or at Tysons Galleria or in the Mosaic District. Book a tasting at wineries like Narmada Winery and Blue Valley Vineyard & Winery or purchase a day pass for a sumptuous spa day at Balian Springs, where hydrotherapy and saunas await. Finish the day at the Capital One Center for rooftop drinks and a round of mini golf at Perch Putt, 11 floors up!

Where to Eat

In Alexandria, make a reservation to sample the tasting menu at Nasime Japanese Restaurant or indulge a Thai craving at Sisters Thai. Wind down the evening with a cocktail at Old Hat Bar or King & Rye Cocktail Garden. For bubbles and bites, try Ms. Peacock’s Champagne Lounge in Arlington, which calls itself an “intimate salon from a bygone era”. Head to Vienna for ample portions in a beautiful setting with a terrace at Bansari Indian Cuisine.

RICHMOND

Richmond is perfect for a girlfriend's getaway with its eclectic mix of artsy neighborhoods, lively food scene, and rich history, offering a fun and dynamic experience for friends looking to explore and unwind.

Where to Stay

The pink decor at downtown hotel Quirk Richmond practically screams girl’s trip, and the coffee and lobby bars mean there are plenty of options for catching up over a beverage of your choice. When the weather is favorable, the rooftop bar is a must.

Another option is the soon-to-open Shenandoah Mansions, located in the heart of the Fan District where beautiful architecture is around every corner.

What to Do

Shop in Carytown or explore other hidden gem boutiques like Addison Vintage, The Wild Heart, Dear Neighbor, Nellie George, or the Shops at 5807 in the West End.

VIRGINIA BEACH

Bay Local Eatery is a great spot for breakfast or brunch. Enjoy fresh seafood from spots like Catch 31 or the Porch on Long Creek or visit Lovesong for wine and small plates. Orion's Roof is a great place for a nightcap, perched 183 feet above the Atlantic Ocean with views of the Boardwalk.

STAUNTON

Staunton is a charming choice for a girlfriend's getaway, with its picturesque historic district, delightful local shops, and cozy eateries. 

Where to Stay

Book a room at The Blackburn Inn, where the on-site spa can accommodate groups and private parties. Another wonderful option is the Historic Inn at Oakdene, a recently renovated estate just minutes from downtown. While you can book private rooms individually, you also have the option to rent the whole house for a space that’s all your own.

What to Do

Shop along Beverly Street and take in the historic architecture that’s all around, or see a play at the world’s only recreation of Shakespeare’s theater at the American Shakespeare Center. Take a short drive to Goshen Pass or nearby Shenandoah National Park to enjoy the surrounding natural beauty.

MIDDLEBURG

Exuding quaint village charm and surrounded by beautiful rolling countryside filled with award-winning wineries, Middleburg is a serenely stylish destination for a girl's weekend.

Options abound—tapas, oysters, fine dining, and more. Consider visiting seafood spot King Street Oyster Bar or the wine bar Tremolo for tapas and an impressive wine list. If celebrations are in order, the Conservatory at Goodstone Inn & Restaurant is known for its fine dining and innovative menu.
