Irvington

Irvington has much to offer. One may observe osprey, eagles and herons nesting and hunting along Carter’s Creek; watch sailboats racing; gather locally grown flowers, vegetables, and folk art from the town’s award-winning Farmers Market; dine on fresh fish, savor Rappahannock River oysters; feast on famous Chesapeake Bay blue crabs; sample medal-winning wines from the village vineyard; learn the importance of the steamboat by touring the Steamboat Era Museum – conveniently located next to the town’s Commons.

Shop, dine and enjoy homemade ice cream right in the center of the welcoming town. Stay at one of two nationally recognized inns or nearby B&B’s, charter a local fishing or tour boat, see beautiful creekside homes, gardens and gorgeous sunsets; take sailing lessons from one of the East Coast’s premier sailing schools; or play golf on two championship golf courses. There’s even more – visit numerous boutique shops, galleries and antique stores; take a free trolley ride (May – September) to nearby Kilmarnock and White Stone or drive to these delightful towns that are less than five minutes away.

Coming by boat? Irvington makes it easy. Carter’s Creek enjoys deep and protected waters and has several marinas offering transient slip rentals for boats of almost any size draft. National and local racing events are hosted by the local yacht club, which offers reciprocal privileges to many sailing clubs up and down Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic seaboard. One of the largest Cape Dory Typhoon fleets in the world is moored in Irvington. Come for a day, a week or more and you will want to return often. Irvington’s “rivah” lifestyle and its bay, river and creek breezes are always refreshingly addictive! Yes, historic Irvington has it all and beckons you to visit soon to experience this special town.
