Washington, DC area Metro subway’s new Silver Line Phase 1 with service to Reston, Virginia is now open. Phase 2 will extend service all the way to Washington Dulles Airport and is expected to open 2020.
Historic Old Town Alexandria welcomed its first waterfront hotel, a Hotel Indigo, in April 2017. The new property adds to the bustling development of Alexandria’s riverfront district, which includes a new Waterfront Market and a new water taxi service linking Alexandria to the monuments and museums of DC’s National Mall.
In spring 2018, Kimpton Lorien Hotel & Spa in Old Town Alexandria completed a multimillion-dollar phased redesign to all 107 guest rooms including 16 suites, hallway corridors, public areas, adjacent restaurant BRABO, and its 5,600 square feet of meeting and event space, including two main function rooms accommodating up to 100 as well as the hotel’s signature outdoor suite terraces overlooking King Street.
Opened spring 2018, the 168-unit Homewood Suites by Hilton Arlington-Rosslyn-Key Bridge will be a LEED Gold-certified upscale, full-service, extended stay, all-suite hotel designed specifically with the extended-stay guest in mind. The hotel will also feature 1,400 square feet of highly flexible meeting space, and a top-notch fitness facility with state of the art equipment.
Coming in 2020, the National Museum of the United States Army will celebrate over 240 years of Army history and honor our nation’s soldiers – past, present, and future - with interactive exhibits, meeting and event space, performance venues and more.
Opened September 2017, the SpringHill Suites by Marriott – Gainesville has 110 comfortable suites featuring separate living areas, pull-out sofas, flat-panel TVs and more. The property also features 1,750 square feet of meeting space, 400 square feet of pre-function space and full-service bar.
The National Museum of the Marine Corps has launched a seven-year $100-million project to document the service’s history from the end of fighting in Vietnam to this generation’s conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. The facility will grow from 112,000 square feet to 200,000 square feet by 2020. The expansion will come in stages and feature the addition of an IMAX-style movie theater, Marine Sports Hall of Fame, refurbished aircraft and combat vehicles along with a host of new exhibits.
Coastal Virginia/Hampton Roads
A 109-room, $11.2 million Hyatt Place hotel is planned for development and is expected to be completed late 2018. The hotel will be the first Hyatt Place (Hyatt flagged) hotel on the Virginia Peninsula.
The Holiday Inn Newport News at City Center is opened May 2018 Formerly the Omni Hotel, the Holiday Inn will offer 183 guestrooms, a restaurant and 10,000 square feet of meeting space.
Opened April 2017, Hilton Norfolk The Main is downtown Norfolk's newest world-class, $147 million, mixed-use entertainment, meeting, dining and hotel destination. It features a 300 room hotel, three world class dining venues and IACC Conference Center which includes 42,000 square feet of state-of-the-art classrooms, centers for leadership and tiered conference rooms. There are also two ballrooms in the Hilton, the largest accommodating groups of up to 1,500.
Completed in spring 2017, the $40 million overhaul and rebranding of Norfolk's iconic Waterside District allows visitors to enjoy the best national and local brands and concepts in an atmosphere that integrates the downtown with its waterfront.
Opened in summer 2017, the 332,000-square-foot Norfolk Premium Outlets features 90 designer and name-brand stores and is centrally located near major highways and Norfolk International Airport.
The Cavalier Hotel’s long-awaited extensive $75 million renovation is complete. The historic hotel reopened March 2018 as a 5-star member of Marriott’s distinguished Autograph Collection with 85 guest rooms, an onsite bourbon distillery, a ballroom for events, and a world class restaurant.
Hyatt House Virginia Beach Oceanfront opened spring 2017 and includes well-equipped oceanfront guest rooms with some featuring full kitchens. Directly situated on the Atlantic Ocean and in close proximity to the Virginia Beach Convention Center, the hotel has over 1,900 square feet of flexible meeting space with state-of-the-art audiovisual equipment.
YorktownThe American Revolution Museum at Yorktown opened spring 2017. The museum features an introductory film, timeline, immersive exhibition galleries and living-history experiences that show the epic scale of the Revolution and the richness and complexity of the country’s Revolutionary heritage.
Coastal Virginia/Eastern Shore
Marina Bay Hotel and Suites is located on Virginia’s Eastern Shore in the heart of downtown Chincoteague Island. Combining the warmth and elegance of an exclusive property with all the facilities of a modern hotel, this is Chincoteague Island’s first boutique hotel. It offers 76 guest rooms and small indoor and outdoor event spaces.
Colonial Beach’s Riverview Inn has completed renovations. Newly renovated rooms featuring all the modern conveniences and decor purchased from local artisans adds to the charm of this 1949 inn on the second longest public beach in Virginia.
RoanokeHome2 Suites by Hilton Roanoke opened in April 2017. The hotel is across the street from Valley View Mall and surrounded by several popular restaurants. SalemThe new Fairfield Inn and Suites Salem comprises of 113 total sleeping rooms. The property also has a state of the art fitness center, indoor heated pool and a small Board Room. A great feature of this hotel is its position located off the main Interstate but nestled in the mountains of Roanoke.
The Draftsman, a vibrant upscale boutique hotel beautifully situated on W. Main Street in downtown Charlottesville, opened spring 2018. The hotel, a member of Marriott’s distinguished Autograph Collection, has four event spaces equaling 2,380 square feet with a maximum capacity of 214 in the largest event space.
Opened spring 2018, Hotel Weyanoke includes 70 rooms and four food and beverage venues: Sassafras, a bakery and market; Humble Pie, an artisanal pizza grill and market featuring locally sourced organic ingredients and family recipes; Campagna, an Italian trattoria and tasting room; and The Bridge, a rooftop refreshment retreat.
LynchburgOpened April 2018, The Virginian Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton restored to appear how it looked when it first opened in 1913. Despite looking historically accurate to the period, it has modern four- to five-star hotel amenities, 115 guest rooms and 8,000 square feet of meeting space.
RichmondThe Graduate Hotel offers a unique experience to visitors, paying tribute to the local college and its culture. The walnut paneled lobby, complete with a chandelier made of Arthur Ashe’s signature frames, is a one of the many nods to Richmond’s rich history. Grab a bite to eat in Brookfield, the lobby café and watering hole, or travel up to Byrd House, the rooftop pool and beer garden perched on the sixteenth floor.
The Embassy Suites by Hilton & Executive Meeting Center has completed its multi-million dollar renovation that includes all guest suites, public areas, meeting and conference areas. One of two IACC-certified venues in the region, the Executive Meeting Center offers all-inclusive meeting packages in its specially designed conference space. Its self-contained center is dedicated conference space for 10-120, just under 10,000 square feet with a dedicated business center and dedicated Director and Conference planning team.
Blue Ridge Highlands
AbingdonOpened in September 2017, the brand new 80 room Fairfield Inn & Suites Abingdon features an indoor pool, fitness room, meeting room and beautiful Blue Ridge Mountain Views.
BlacksburgThe new Hyatt Place Blacksburg opened in March 2017. It offers 123 guest rooms and nearly 3,000 square feet of meeting space. Meetings as large as 176 people can be accommodated in a banquet style setting. Within walking distance are several retail and dining options.
With its grand opening in fall 2018, The Bristol Hotel repurposes downtown Bristol’s notable Executive Plaza, which dates back to 1925 into a 65-room boutique hotel. It will feature a rooftop bar with scenic views and street-front dining serving farm-to-table style cuisine.
HarrisonburgThe 230-room hotel, Hotel Madison, opened in downtown Harrisonburg in spring 2018. It will include 50 extended-stay rooms and one presidential suite. With over 21,000 square feet of event space, the Shenandoah Valley Conference Center will offer multiple breakout spaces and will have the flexibility to host groups of ten to 1,200.
Beginning November 2017, the Stonewall Jackson Hotel & Conference Center will undergo a refresh of all guest rooms and public spaces, including the conference facilities, swimming pool, and fitness center.
BayseBryce Resort in Shenandoah Valley is undergoing a major renovation to their buildings following the 2018 winter ski season. The project will include expanded meetings facilities and fitness area.
Heart of AppalachiaThe Western Front Hotel opened early 2018 and is a historic boutique hotel with 30 hotel rooms in downtown St. Paul situated between the Spearhead Trails and the Clinch River. The hotel features Milton's, an upscale Appalachian Cuisine restaurant. It also includes a rooftop bar, gift shop, Music Hall, outdoor lawn and stage for performances, and a billiards/pool room.
Opened September 2017, the new Holiday Inn and Suites South Hill features a total of 72 guest rooms, heated indoor pool and outdoor dining. A board room is available for meetings of up to 30 as well as a separate meeting room that accommodates up to 60.
Preservation Ale and Smokehouse is set to open late 2018 in the oldest tobacco prizery downtown. The restaurant and brewpub will serve up southern barbecue with some twists, incorporating Nashville-, Memphis- and Korean-style flavors.
