Washington, DC area Metro subway’s new Silver Line Phase 1 with service to Reston, Virginia is now open. Phase 2 will extend service all the way to Washington Dulles Airport and is expected to open 2020.
Coming in 2020, the National Museum of the United States Army will celebrate over 240 years of Army history and honor our nation’s soldiers – past, present, and future - with interactive exhibits, meeting and event space, performance venues and more.
The National Museum of the Marine Corps has launched a seven-year $100-million project to document the service’s history from the end of fighting in Vietnam to this generation’s conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. The facility will grow from 112,000 square feet to 200,000 square feet by 2020. The expansion will come in stages and feature the addition of an IMAX-style movie theater, Marine Sports Hall of Fame, refurbished aircraft and combat vehicles along with a host of new exhibits.
Coastal Virginia/Hampton Roads
The Starwood Hotel and Resort's Element Hotel at Peninsula Town Center is now open. The hotel offers 100 guest rooms and 27 suites as well as 1,040 sq. ft. of meeting space.
The Holiday Inn Newport News at City Center is opened May 2018 Formerly the Omni Hotel, the Holiday Inn will offer 183 guestrooms, a restaurant and 10,000 square feet of meeting space.
Glass Light Hotel, a Marriott Autograph Collection, will open in Norfolk's historic Rail District in May 2020. The hotel will be down the street from the nationally ranked Chrysler Museum of Art and its Glass Studio. It is expected to open during Norfolk's first Mural Rail Festival, which is likely to become an annual festival.
The Marriott Oceanfront Hotel is expected to open early 2020. The 20-story, 300 room hotel will also have over 25,000 square feet of flexible meeting space including an oceanfront terrace off the 11,000 square-foot ballroom.
Delta by Marriott, Virginia Bayfront Suites, is also opening an all-suites product with 292 rooms along the Chesapeake Bay. The property is projected to open mid-2020 and offers over 13,000 square feet of meeting space.
Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg completed a multimillion-dollar renovation. The improvements included a top-to-bottom transformation of all 405 guest rooms, corridors and stairwells. The family-friendly indoor waterpark resort now features a contemporary design.
Mouth of Wilson
Tucked into the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, the Quiltville Inn Retreat Center will be a perfect destination for small meetings and retreats of up to 12 people. Expected opening in 2020.
CharlottesvilleVisit the ‘reimagined’ Boar’s Head Resort. Formerly the Boar’s Head Inn, the Charlottesville resort features its newly renovated main building as well as a fully made-over restaurant called The Mill Room, bar and lobby, all while remaining true to its original roots.
Opened spring 2018, Hotel Weyanoke includes 70 rooms and four food and beverage venues: Sassafras, a bakery and market; Humble Pie, an artisanal pizza grill and market featuring locally sourced organic ingredients and family recipes; Campagna, an Italian trattoria and tasting room; and The Bridge, a rooftop refreshment retreat.
LynchburgOpened April 2018, The Virginian Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton restored to appear how it looked when it first opened in 1913. Despite looking historically accurate to the period, it has modern four- to five-star hotel amenities, 115 guest rooms and 8,000 square feet of meeting space.
The American Civil War Museum in Richmond opened its 29,000-square-foot institution bringing together the American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar and the Museum of the Confederacy.
Rosie’s Gaming Emporium is now open in Richmond, Vinton and at Colonial Downs. Rosie’s features HHR (historical horse racing) machines, delicious dining, and a fantastic bar.
Blue Ridge Highlands
Southwest Virginia Cultural Center & Marketplace, formerly known as Heartwood, has reopened with a refreshed look and renewed focus on telling the culturally authentic story of Southwest Virginia to residents and visitors alike. An expanded visitor center, new theater and exhibits, and a reinvented restaurant are just a few of the new features.
WytheThe APEX Center serves as Virginia’s premier exposition and civic center west of Roanoke, playing host to a multitude of community events as well as national shows and competitions. Rodeos, indoor soccer events, consumer shows, motocross, concerts, regional fairs, equine events and dozens of other regional and national events. The center includes a 150’ X 300’ indoor arena with seating for up to 4,000.
With its grand opening in fall 2018, The Bristol Hotel repurposes downtown Bristol’s notable Executive Plaza, which dates back to 1925 into a 65-room boutique hotel. It will feature a rooftop bar with scenic views and street-front dining serving farm-to-table style cuisine.
Kairos Wilderness Resort now has riverside primitive campgrounds and will begin construction on 23 treehouses and cottages in 2019.
HarrisonburgThe 230-room hotel, Hotel Madison, opened in downtown Harrisonburg in spring 2018. It will include 50 extended-stay rooms and one presidential suite. With over 21,000 square feet of event space, the Shenandoah Valley Conference Center will offer multiple breakout spaces and will have the flexibility to host groups of ten to 1,200.
Opened spring 2018, The Blackburn Inn was originally constructed in 1828, but is now a historic Virginia boutique hotel that exemplifies artful design and a modern, upscale, state-of-the-art experience. The 49-room Inn is set on a picturesque 80-acre campus in Staunton with stunning views at every turn. The Inn offers 2,500 square feet of distinct indoor space in their Penthouse Loft, complete with a rooftop patio overlooking downtown Staunton.
Heart of AppalachiaThe Western Front Hotel opened early 2018 and is a historic boutique hotel with 30 hotel rooms in downtown St. Paul situated between the Spearhead Trails and the Clinch River. The hotel features Milton's, an upscale Appalachian Cuisine restaurant. It also includes a rooftop bar, gift shop, Music Hall, outdoor lawn and stage for performances, and a billiards/pool room.
One of Virginia’s beloved coastal resorts, the Tides Inn, received a new look and restaurant. The new coastal eatery called Fish Hawk features outdoor oyster roasting, a raw bar and various seafood classics. Also, new this summer, Duffy Electric Boats can be rented from the Tides Inn.
