Highland County is known as “Virginia’s Switzerland” thanks to its alpine climate; the highest mean elevation of any county east of the Mississippi River. Bath County offers a quintessential escape with elegant historic lodging for those seeking authentic southern hospitality. 

Experience the railroad heritage, the last remaining covered humpback bridge in the United States, cascading waterfalls and shimmering Smith Mountain Lake, popular with boaters and fishing competitions such as the Bassmaster Elite Series. Music enthusiasts love to follow The Crooked Road: Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail.
