Day 1: Fredericksburg

Mary Washington House: Visit the Mary Washington House to learn about George Washington’s mother, Mary Ball Washington, who spent the final 17 years of her life in this Fredericksburg home.  Purchased for her by her son in 1772, it is located within walking distance of Historic Kenmore, the home of her daughter, Betty Washington Lewis. The site is rich with personal and Revolutionary-era history. Tradition holds that the Marquis de Lafayette once visited her here, and that George Washington received his mother’s blessing at this home before his 1789 inauguration. The experience also shares the stories of the enslaved individuals who lived and worked on the property, offering important insight into their lives and contributions. [1 hour]

Riverside Center for the Performing Arts: Finally, enjoy dinner and a show at Riverside Center for the Performing Arts.  Located approximately 15 minutes from Downtown, the theatre is a traditional proscenium stage boasting Virginia’s only dinner theatre fly loft for exquisite sets and seamless transitions between scenes. Its ever-widening reputation and recognition for production excellence has attracted performers from the Broadway stage and national-tour casts.  Dinner Theatre patrons enjoy a three-course, chef-prepared meal served by an experienced staff of waiters, a service not generally found in dinner theaters elsewhere. Day 2: Stafford

George Washington's Ferry Farm:  Step onto the grounds where America's first president spent much of his childhood. Overlooking the Rappahannock River, Ferry Farm offers a fascinating glimpse into 18th-century life through archaeological discoveries, reconstructed buildings, and engaging exhibits. Guided tours bring the Washington family's story to life while showcasing the property's significance in shaping one of America's most influential leaders. [1 hour]

Gari Melchers Home and Studio at Belmont:  Explore the former home and studio of renowned American artist Gari Melchers at this National Historic Landmark overlooking the Rappahannock River. Tour the beautifully preserved residence, view original artwork and personal collections, and stroll through the picturesque gardens that inspired much of Melchers' work. Interactive Lunch Experience at Belmont: Enjoy a catered lunch paired with a hands-on experience designed to spark creativity and connection. Day 3: Prince William County

Begin your morning by paying your respects at National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico with a private flag-placing experience at the graves of veterans whose remains were previously forgotten. Hosted by the Missing in America Project, their mission is to find, identify, and provide full military burial for these now-remembered heroes. [1 hour]

Next, enjoy a tour of the inspiring National Museum of the Marine Corps. With over ten different exhibits and nearly a thousand artifacts, it’s hard not to leave here with a deeper appreciation of the Corps. During your visit, see the incredible Gene Hackman-narrated film “We, The Marines” to get an unparalleled view into the experiences of Marines from boot camp through modern warfare training. Enjoy lunch at either the Devil Dog Diner or Tun Tavern, both of which are at the museum and rooted in Marine history.  [3 hours]

See a spectacular laser show at the Irene V. Hylton Planetarium with none other than The Beatles set as the soundtrack. Be captivated by the music and light provided by this tribute and learn how The Beatles helped define a generation. You will definitely want to get out of your seat to “Twist and Shout”! [1-2 hours]

Finish your day with a trip to Historic Occoquan where you will be welcomed by Mayor, Earnie Porta, for a private tour of the town. Take some time to explore the charming riverside town on your own. There are many locally owned and operated shops with a variety of unique items for you to take home, such as handmade stained glass and clothing. Grab a fresh and flaky slice of pie at The Golden Plum before wrapping up your trip! [2-3 hours] 

Day 4: Alexandria

Wake up in a historic, but not static, city where centuries-old stories live alongside those still being written. Let a cozy cup of coffee from Dolci Gelati or Misha's Coffee awaken tired eyes, as you follow brick-paved pathways past quaint independent boutiques and restaurants in historic homes, down to Alexandria's waterfront for a jaw-dropping sunrise across the Potomac River. [1 hour]

Energize with a savory breakfast from Café du Soleil, a family-owned coffee shop, before exploring Old Town’s historic venues. Groups may split up and choose between going on a walking tour with Alexandria History Tours or step into a portal into time, the Torpedo Factory Arts Center, once a World War II munitions plant and now a vibrant hub of creativity, where 82 studios, ten galleries, and 150 talented artists bring everything from painting and ceramics to fiber and printmaking to life across three floors. [1.5 hours]

For lunch, soak in panoramic Potomac River views as you dine inside Cooper Mill, a historic flour mill reborn as a lively two-story pizza tavern and bar. Groups can take inspiration from the sweeping waterfront views and good food. [1 hour]

Only eight miles south of Old Town Alexandria lies George Washington's Mount Vernon, the general's former home that continues bustling centuries later. Visitors can tour the meticulously preserved grounds, viewing Washington's farm, gardens, and even his final resting place, discovering life in colonial America firsthand. [3-4 hours]  

Return to Alexandria's waterfront and step aboard the water taxi and enjoy a dinner cruise with City Cruises. Launching from the Alexandria marina, enjoy delicious bites among stunning views of the illuminated monuments of Washington, D.C. under the moonlight, all from the Potomac River.  [2 hours]
