Day 1 – Gardens, Farms & Mountain Hospitality in Montgomery County

Explore the Hahn Horticulture Garden at Virginia Tech

The journey begins at the beautiful Hahn Horticulture Garden on the campus of Virginia Tech. This six-acre public garden offers a peaceful and inspiring introduction to Southwest Virginia’s natural beauty. Guests can enjoy a leisurely guided stroll through vibrant seasonal blooms, native plant collections, tranquil water features, and curated themed gardens while learning about the region’s horticultural traditions and sustainable landscaping practices. Farm-to-Table Lunch & Flower Picking at Rising Silo Brewery
Next, the group will travel to Rising Silo Brewery, a beloved farm brewery and community gathering space nestled among rolling farmland just outside downtown Blacksburg. Guests will enjoy a relaxed farm-to-table lunch featuring locally sourced ingredients and Appalachian-inspired flavors in a welcoming rural setting.

Following lunch, visitors can participate in a seasonal “you-pick” flower experience, strolling through colorful flower fields to create their own fresh bouquet to take home. The combination of mountain views, fresh air, local food, and hands-on agricultural experiences creates a memorable afternoon that perfectly captures the spirit of Montgomery County.

Berry Picking & Farm Experiences

The afternoon continues with a visit to 3 Birds Berry Farm, the area’s only U-pick berry farm. Beginning in mid-June, guests can enjoy harvesting fresh blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries straight from the fields while taking in scenic views of the surrounding countryside. The farm’s accessible picking areas and relaxed atmosphere make it an ideal stop for travelers of all ages. 

Relax & Dine in Downtown Blacksburg

After returning to the hotel to refresh and unwind, guests will enjoy an evening on their own in Downtown Blacksburg. The walkable downtown district offers an inviting mix of locally owned restaurants, breweries, wine bars, cafés, and boutiques, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace. Whether choosing an upscale dinner, casual Appalachian fare, or simply enjoying the lively atmosphere of this vibrant college town, the evening provides a perfect close to a day immersed in gardens, farms, and Southwest Virginia hospitality.

Day 2 - Danville

Welcome to beautiful Danville and Pittsylvania County located in southern Virginia. This region, which was once a hub for the tobacco industry, has now blossomed into a hub of agricultural touristic activity. 

Moses Mill Farm – 1-2 hours

Experience a working farm up close and personal! Try your hand at milking a goat, or enjoy quality time with the many goats and other animal residents. You will also have the opportunity to purchase artisan soaps made from goats milk and body products that are good for your skin. 

Lunch at Hunt and Company - 1.5 hours

Enjoy a fresh, savory lunch at this local establishment. They pride themselves on using only the highest in quality ingredients that will leave you satisfied and fueled as you continue on your journey.

HomePlace Vineyard – 1 hour

Enjoy a glass of wine and relax in their tasting room, as you overlook the rows of vineyards. The Homeplace Vineyard offers a selection of wines varying from full bodied dry varietals to light sipping wines, with something to appeal to every pallet this is a relaxing stop on the journey.

Funky Fleece Farm - 1-2 hours

At Funky Fleece Farms you are able to get into the pen with alpacas! You will be able to spend personal time with these creatures, feed them treats and take pictures with them.

Our crown jewel of the garden scene is Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, which Conde Nast Traveler named one of the Most Beautiful Botanical Gardens in the U.S. Lewis Ginter anchors the Richmond Garden Trail, with 10 awesome gardens within 10 miles. 

Keystone Truck & Tractor Museum - 90 minutes
Experience a century of agricultural heritage under one roof! See fully restored antique farm tractors, farm-related equipment, antique road trucks, classic cars, and so much more!

Lunch at Ashton Creek Vineyard - 90 minutes
This quaint family-owned Virginia winery has an affinity for quality, cuisine, and the flavors of our region. Sample and savor award-winning varietals alongside curated pairings and farm-to-table menu offerings in the Tasting Room. 

Agecroft Hall and Gardens - 90 minutes
Agecroft Hall is a 16th-century Tudor-style manor house that was moved from England in 1925 and rebuilt on the banks of the James River. The grounds and gardens reflect the glorious style of England's Tudor and early Stuart periods.

Day 4 - Richmond

Patrick Henry’s Scotchtown - 1 hour
Scotchtown is best known as the home of Patrick Henry during the tumultuous years leading up to the American Revolution. Built around 1720 by Charles Chiswell, Scotchtown is architecturally unique. It features eight large rooms and a central passage below a large, undivided attic. The house is surrounded by reproduction outbuildings and gardens. 

Depart for Fredericksburg
