Day 1

Begin your trip at the Culpeper Depot, the site of "Reel LOVE" highlighting the emerging arts in Culpeper and the Virginia is for Lovers brand throughout Virginia.

Head to The Glassworks Gallery  for some of the best local art and crafts from the Rappahannock County area. Located next to Shenandoah National Park, they are the largest art gallery in the area representing over 30 artists.

Take a walking tour of Downtown Historic Culpeper and stop by A.P. Hill’s Boyhood Home or visit the historic Culpeper National Cemetery.

Have a true lake experience at Lake Pelham Adventures Park. Lake Pelham Adventures offers canoe, kayak, paddleboard and paddle boat rentals - a perfect way to spend a warm day or afternoon. Or enjoy an afternoon fishing at the Skyline Trout Farm. More adventurous types can go skydiving with Sky Dive Orange.

Your adventure continues as we travel south in Virginia’s Central Region. Step back in time while visiting the Presidential Homes of Madison, Monroe and Jefferson and sample your way along the 33-stop Monticello Wine Trail.

Visit the LOVEWork in Orange County. Orange County’s LOVEwork highlights some of what there is to love about an Orange County visit! 

  • L - Rich legal history to be found in the home of James Madison, father of the Constitution. 
  • O - The Civil War, and Orange County’s involvement in all four years of the conflict. 
  • V - The many vines from which world class wine is produced
  • E - Equestrian culture and history of the area. 

Visit Montpelier, the home of James Madison, and explore the house DuPont galleries, archaeological dig sites, formal gardens, 8+ miles of forest and walking trails.

Join the Albemarle County Historical Society for a walking tour (by appointment for groups of 6 or more) of the Charlottesville Historic District or enjoy unique shopping and dining on the downtown brick pedestrian mall.

Walk the Saunders-Monticello Trail. Stretching two miles, the trail is open to pedestrians, cyclists, and to those in wheelchairs. With a maximum grade of five percent, the trail is completely accessible.

Visit the Fauquier History Museum at the Old Jail, formerly the Fauquier County Jail. Operated as a jail until 1966, this is one of the most perfectly preserved old jails in the Commonwealth.
