For fans of film and television, Virginia is a perfect destination. See the many films and series shot in Virginia, learn more about the places they were filmed, and check out the many celebrated film festivals hosted by vibrant communities across the Commonwealth. Walk where the stars have walked, dine where they dined, and visit some of the many Virginia locations that have been featured on the big and small screens.
Walk the streets of beautiful Old Towne Petersburg, where the 18th and 19th century drama of The Good Lord Bird, Harriet, Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln, and AMC’s TURN: Washington’s Spies played out. Visit the recognizable buildings of Richmond, including the Jefferson Hotel, the shops in Shockoe Bottom, the State Capitol, or the world-famous Virginia Museum of Fine arts, featured in Showtime’s Homeland, Hulu’s Dopesick, Apple’s Swagger, and many more. Tune into The Walking Dead: World Beyond and visit recognizable sites in Petersburg and Richmond where walkers (read: zombies) have roamed. Take a scenic backroad and head west, passing through the natural beauty of the Alleghany Highlands featured in Dopesick, and then exploring gorgeous Southwest Virginia, taking time to see the picturesque world of author and director Adriana Trigiani’s characters from her film Big Stone Gap, starring Ashley Judd and Whoopi Goldberg. And don’t forget to carve out days for a nostalgic getaway at Mountain Lake Lodge, the setting for the unforgettable Dirty Dancing and a fan favorite to this day.
