This exciting getaway for families includes hands-on exploration at a children's museum, fresh air and mountain views, fun on the farm, and two classic retro attractions that parents will love too!
Start the day at the Shenandoah Valley Discovery Museum, where the kids can unleash their energy and creativity with interactive exhibits. Take a short walk to the Loudoun Street Mall in Old Town Winchester for lunch at one of many locally owned restaurants, such as Thai Winchester, Snow White Grill, or Brewbaker’s Restaurant. During the warmer months, a splash pad on the mall entertains children of all ages. Make your home base at Candy Hill Campground, a great place for family activities. The kids will love the swimming pool, playgrounds, game room, rental bikes, and making s’mores around the campfire. For a small fee, hop on the campground’s “Rockin’ Trolley” ride for ice cream or frozen yogurt as an evening treat. Rental cabins are also available, but if camping isn't your thing, Courtyard by Marriott is located directly across the street.
Step back in time to the age of the dinosaurs at Dinosaur Land. This classic roadside attraction has been amusing visitors for over 50 years. Don’t forget to bring your camera! Enjoy dinner at Roma Casual Italian & Greek Dining in Stephens City on your way to a double feature at the Family Drive-In Theatre (or check out their concession stand!)
Spend a day in the country at Marker-Miller Orchards and Farm Market. Mountain views, fresh air, and acres of fruit trees are the perfect backdrop for family fun. The kids will love the huge play area with pirate ship, castle, and sandbox. No doubt that the kids will also love feasting on fresh berries or apples they can pick themselves! Bring a picnic lunch, or purchase goodies from the market to eat under the gazebo. Don’t leave without letting the kids take a ride on the famous “cow train”! For families with older children or teens, be adventurous and try a trail ride at Rocking S Ranch, or get into the action at Skyline Lasertag’s indoor playing field.
